Small Business Support
If you are a small business (under 10 employees), then you may be entitled to free business support or training. Universal is able to offer this directly through its Associateship with a number of local Enterprise Agencies delivering ChamberLink services to the business community.
- If you are based in Tameside, then this is through R Stuart Ridgway & Associates Limited www.ridgway-associates.co.uk
- The “City Pride” area of Manchester is covered by Manchester Business Consortium. Their website is to be found at www.manchester-business.co.uk In addition, we are one of the tutors for their range of Learn Direct courses
- Salford Hundred Venture (www.shv.org.uk) cover the Salford and West Manchester area
- Trafford and South Manchester are looked after by TBV Business Services (www.tbv.org.uk)
There is also plenty of support and information to be obtained at the Chamberlink website www.c-b-e.co.uk
For information, Microsoft have produced their own Small Business website. It is full of good, sound, common sense advice and can be found at www.bcentral.co.uk
The Internet
Should you be considering building your own website and are based in Tameside, then consider talking to the team at e-Tameside first as, whilst there are no longer grants available they are still able to offer advice.

If your business is based in Tameside, then why
not consider a page on the Tameside Business website (www.tamesidebusiness.co.uk).
This is a free service supported by both TMBC and Manchester University.
You can easily set up a mini website (linked to your main one)
giving you more exposure to the Tameside (and wider) business community.
For further information, please contact the E-Tameside business
team 0161 342 2508.
Should you wish to have your website designed by the professionals, then we can recommend As One New Media (who created this website). They are thoroughly professional whilst retaining a sense of humour. Their website can be found at www.asone.co.uk
Networking Opportunities
Would your company benefit from extra business? Would your company benefit from meeting other business owners to share their knowledge, expertise and contacts? Or meeting new clients, customers, service providers?
Well, we believe that Networking is one of the best ways to do business – at its best, it means that when you ring someone they are expecting your call, thus increasing your chance of actually obtaining the business; in addition, it means that you have an unpaid sales force out there working on your behalf to help increase business.
We are members of a number of such organisations…
Each of which offer us different opportunities to increase not only our business opportunities, but also to be able to offer our clients a far wider range of support than would otherwise be possible.
IT Support
If we have a problem with our hardware systems, networks or need to increase what we have, then rather than doing it ourselves (and risk becoming “Jacks of All Trades”), we use JL Services – based locally to us in Denton, they are not only very good at what they do, but also have the ability to explain complex problems without using jargon… you can understand what they mean! In addition, they offer good sound advice. To contact them directly, send an email to info@jlservices.co.uk
Recently, we have also been working with EvaluateIT
Small Business Computer Help. This virtual IT department offers
IT advice and free technical support to individuals with their
own small business and those who are thinking of starting up in
business. Their website can be found at: www.evaluateit.co.uk
